It is easy to write Zapier off in an n8n cohort. Here is the honest case for it.
1. The app directory is genuinely unmatched.
Zapier connects to over 7000 apps, including a lot of small, obscure SaaS tools a client actually uses that n8n has no node for and never will. When a client says "we use some niche invoicing tool," Zapier has probably already built the integration. n8n makes you reach for `HTTP Request` and read their API docs yourself.
2. Zero infrastructure, zero excuses.
There is no server to host, no updates to run, no uptime to babysit. You build a Zap in the browser and it just runs. For a client who does not care how it works and only cares that it never breaks, that is worth real money.
3. Paths and built-in error handling are dead simple.
Zapier's `Paths` branching and its automatic retry-on-failure behavior are built for people who have never touched a flowchart in their life. It trades power for a floor that is very hard to fall below.
None of this makes it better than n8n for what we do here, self-hosted, flexible, no per-task pricing eating your margin. But when would you actually recommend Zapier to a client over n8n? Be honest, has it ever been the right call for you?
